Johnny Thompson

Johnny Thompson has been teaching for….well, let’s just leave it at “many years.”  She lived the first half of life on the west side of the state (Kalamazoo, for those familiar with the area; Augusta, for those even more familiar with the area) After graduating from Western Michigan University she wanted to take a break from classroom life and packed everything in her Neon to move to North Carolina and live in the wilderness.  She worked at Camp E-Ku-Sumee rehabilitating at-risk youth through the Eckerd Youth Alternatives program.  It was the hardest job she’s ever loved.  When she moved back to Michigan it was to settle down in Ann Arbor.  There, she became a foster parent and started building the family that is growing incredibly fast! She taught fourth and fifth grade at Honey Creek Community School for twelve years and loved almost every minute of it, but decided to move to AAPS in 2019.  Since then, she’s fallen in love with Ann Arbor Open and loves working with 5th and 6th graders.  In her free time she enjoys exploring nature, reading, playing volleyball, and writing.  Each year she participates in NaNoWriMo, a November writing challenge, and is excited to have published a book of her own.
